What is Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty involves correction of labia majora and minora. Over the period, due to aging, labia minora become stretched and elongated. Labiaplasty reduces the size of labia minor to make them look more attractive. Labia majora also become flattened over the years. This can be corrected by labia augmentation surgery. Fat grafting or fillers can augment the labia majora, making them look more youthful.

What is Hymenoplasty?

The hymen is a thin layer of tissue that encloses the vaginal area. The hymen can easily break in many situations outside of intercourse, including vigorous activities such as horseback riding or gymnastics, the insertion of tampons, or even during regular pap smears. Many women may not even be aware that their hymen has torn, as there may be little to no blood loss and no pain.

Hymen repair surgery, also known as hymenoplasty, is a simple procedure that will repair a torn hymen or build a hymen that is not present. It is important to understand that the surgery will not restore virginity, but it will allow for women to tear and bleed the first time they engage in intercourse after surgery.

What is clitoral hood reduction surgery?

Clitoral hood reduction, sometimes called as clitoral hoodectomy, is an elective procedure to separate the prepuce from the clitoral tissue encompassing resection of excess skin in the fold surrounding the clitoris.

Post-operative care and recovery:

After surgery, you will wear a sanitary pad with a small amount of ointment on it and use ice packs for comfort. All your stitches will be dissolvable. You will use a “peri bottle” or water bottle to cleanse yourself after going to the bathroom. When you are resting at home, I advise pelvic elevation by keeping your pelvis propped up on 1-2 pillows to help the swelling come down.

Swelling after labiaplasty peaks in the first 2 weeks. During this time frame, swelling is gravity-dependent, so you will notice that spending more time doing pelvic elevation helps the swelling decrease. Even if you are up and about right after surgery, this will not affect your long-term result, although it may take a bit longer for your swelling to go away. After the first 2 weeks, swelling continues to decrease on its own. You will have about 80% of the final surgical result at 1 month after surgery and 90% after 6 weeks, although it takes a full 6 months for all swelling to completely dissipate. You will be able to do normal activities, such as walking around the block and running an errand, the day after surgery. Depending on the nature of your job, many women are able to return to work within 2-3 days. You will be able to return to sexual intercourse and normal activities after approximately 6 weeks.
